ucook.com Delivers the World’s Best Recipes To the Palm VII Connected Organizer
BRUNSWICK, Maine — October 4, 1999 — ucook.com, The Ultimate Cookbook(TM), is providing premier recipes and cooking information via the ucook.com Web clipping application for the Palm VII(TM) connected organizer, the first integrated wireless handheld computing product that is shipping nationwide today from Palm Computing(R), a 3Com company (Nasdaq: COMS). The ucook.com Web clipping application is available for free download at www.ucook.com or www.palm.net/apps/index.html.
ucook.com allows users of the Palm VII connected organizer to search a database of more than 40,000 recipes from leading cookbooks by almost any criteria, including combinations of ingredients, nutritional characteristics, and preparation time.
The new Palm VII connected organizer provides fast, secure and easy access to personal, business and Internet information and serves as a means of instant two-way communications. The product enables users to obtain useful information from various Web sites and conduct e-commerce transactions via a wireless connection to the Internet.
With mobile connectivity to ucook.com's recipe database, Palm VII users can figure out what to make for dinner long before they get home and find themselves staring blankly into the refrigerator.
"Palm Computing organizer customers may be busy professionals who need instant access to business information, stock quotes, and travel updates," says Susan Purcell, CEO of ucook.com. "But we also know they need to eat. And for many of them, that means getting dinner on the table."
"Nearly everyone has found himself in a grocery store — surrounded by food — but without any idea of what to cook tonight. Or they know they want to make a particular dish, but can't remember what ingredients they need. ucook.com's Web clipping application solves both problems," Purcell says.
"It provides unparalleled access to recipes, to help people decide what to make. And in the grocery store, they can instantly access a complete list of the ingredients they need to get dinner on the table tonight."
To search for recipes on the Palm VII, users enter the name of a recipe, or search by any ingredients they have in mind (including any combination of ingredients, or excluding any unwanted ingredients). They can search for kosher, vegetarian, or vegan recipes; set limits in nutritional categories, including calories, cholesterol, fats, salt, carbohydrates, etc.; choose an ethnic or regional focus; and/or specify a maximum preparation time.
In response to their search, Palm VII users will see a list of up to 10 recipes that match their search criteria, including a complete list of ingredients and the nutritional makeup of each recipe. Based on that information, they can quickly decide what dish to prepare and pick up the necessary ingredients on the way home.
At home with the groceries, the Palm VII user can view the full recipe with preparation instructions on ucook.com (a payment of 16c to 99c may be required), or, if he already owns the cookbook that contains his chosen recipe, he simply takes it off the shelf to cook.
