Remedy Link for Palm Computing Platform Makes IT Mobile
ATLANTA — October 19, 1998 — Remedy Corporation (Nasdaq: RMDY), the global leader in the consolidated service desk market, today announced the release of Remedy Link for the Palm Computing Platform version 1.0. The first native integration between a help desk solution and the Palm Computing platform, Remedy Link allows mobile workers to access all relevant data from Remedy AR System(TM), Remedy Help Desk(TM) and Remedy Strategic Service Suite(TM) applications that are synchronized with a Palm Computing device. This frees IT staff from the network, allows them to view information when and where required, and updates information on the spot.
"Remedy's customers tell us that the enterprise environment requires a mobile enabled knowledge worker," said Matt Miller, vice president and general manager of Remedy's help desk business unit. "Users can now take specific information with them and update and exchange data as they move about between the office and remote fields. This product is one of a number of new initiatives that Remedy will offer our leading-edge customers to lower service costs and increase satisfaction using mobile technology."
Remedy Link for Palm Computing Platform benefits support organizations by speeding up support processes and saving both time and money through improved operational efficiency. Service desk technicians can download all open tickets by simply pressing the Palm HotSync(R) button and have customer data in-hand when they arrive on site, without having to print and carry Remedy tickets. Data capture improves through the ability to create tickets on-the-go and easily track ad hoc requests. Additionally, the Remedy Link decreases workload on call centers by allowing technicians to update tickets via synchronization, instead of through phone calls that have to be processed by the help desk.
"Remedy Link is an excellent example of how mobile computing solutions are being deployed strategically in the enterprise to reduce costs, increase productivity, and improve efficiency," said Mark Bercow, vice president, strategic alliances and platform development, Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company. "This is the first product to result from 3Com's relationship with Remedy, and we plan to continue to work together to broaden the Palm Computing platform's enterprise functionality."
Remedy's link is designed not only for the Palm III(TM) and PalmPilot(TM) Professional Edition organizers, but is also supported by handheld devices from Palm Computing platform partners, including IBM and Symbol Technologies. Symbol Technologies, a $1 billion provider of scanning and wireless communication solutions, is also partnering with Remedy to support the solution on the Symbol SPT 1500 device. The symbol SPT 1500 product includes an integrated bar code scanner. Support will be available in a future version of the Remedy Link for this Palm Computing platform product.
