Psion Series 3a Sales Top 10,000 Units

BOSTON — October 12, 1993 — Since its introduction (9/13/93) less than one month ago, Psion Inc. reports that sales of its Series 3a palm-top computer have exceeded 10,000 units in the United States.

The Series 3a is the first PDA to offer a Digital Audio System.

The product line with street prices starting at $399, are available in over 800 resellers nationwide including the Sharper Image, CompUSA, Silo and Sears. Barry Balcourt, Psion's VP of Sale, commented recently, "The portable computing category has exploded with the arrival of innovative offerings from a variety of companies such as Apple and their Newton." Unlike the Newton, Psion employs a keyboard or voice input, as opposed to a pen device. "Pen has yet to be perfected," notes Balcourt.

Psion's Series 3 product lines include a built-in word processor compatible with Microsoft Word, Lotus 1-2-3 compatible spreadsheet and a Time Management System in addition to a variety of built-in software applications. All Series 3's have expandable memory. Psion is a wholly-owned subsidiary of London, UK based Psion PLC, Europe's leading hand-held computer manufacturer and inventor of the world's first electronic Organizer.
