Psion Announces Strategic Alliance with CompuServe
BOSTON — August 25, 1994 — Psion Inc., U.S. subsidiary of British portable computer group Psion Plc, announced today that it is recommending CompuServe as the on-line service of choice to users of its acclaimed Series 3 and 3a computers.
Psion's award-winning Series 3 palmtop computers have already established themselves as the highest-selling PDA in the world today. The company has recently increased production to 24,000 machines per month. Psion has been the main beneficiary of the failure of pen-based PDA's, such as the Apple Newton and Casio/Tandy Zoomer, to establish retail markets.
Psion recognizes the importance of communication on the move. Many Series 3 owners already send electronic mail messages and faxes via CompuServe, as well as using the extensive on-line information facilities which CompuServe offers to research news, market information and a host of other subjects. The Psion Inc. area on CompuServe's Palmtop Forum is very active and is a rich source of public-domain software for the range. This forum is also used by Psion Inc. and Psion plc to disseminate information, provide users with technical support and to obtain valuable feedback on existing and potential products.
