O’Reilly Releases First Palm Computing Platform Programming Guide

SEBASTOPOL, Calif. — December 7, 1998 — O'Reilly and Associates, publishers of David Pogue's bestselling "PalmPilot: the Ultimate Guide," have followed up their successful entry into the Palm Pilot arena by publishing the first Palm Computing(R) platform programmers' guide — "Palm Pilot Programming: The Developer's Guide" by Neil Rhodes and Julie McKeehan.

Palm Computing will be using "Palm Programming: The Developer's Guide" as their official developer's guide. The authors worked closely with Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com Company, to ensure that the book is tailored exactly to the needs of ever-growing group of Palm developers, and Palm will be using it as a key part of their training materials for developers.

"Palm Programming" shows intermediate to experienced C programmers how to build a Palm application from the ground up. With a clear, concise tutorial approach, this book gives readers everything necessary to create a wide range of Palm applications and HotSync(R) conduits, from simple scripts through full-blown applications.

It includes a CD-ROM (Macintosh and Windows compatible) with the full source code to the examples in the book, a trial version of Palm's Software Development Kit, and third-party developer tools, including Metrowerks' CodeWarrior Lite programming kit. This is the book to get if you're developing for the Palm Pilot.
