Intuit Announces Pocket Quicken for Newton 2.0

MENLO PARK, Calif. — November 13, 1995 — Intuit Inc. (NASDAQ:INTU), the leading developer of personal and small business finance software, today announced Pocket Quicken 1.2 for Newton 2.0, built into the new Apple MessagePad 120 with Newton 2.0. Pocket Quicken 1.2 for Newton 2.0 is an updated version of Pocket Quicken for Newton, Intuits market-leading mobile financial application that enables busy professionals to stay on top of their finances even while on-the-go.

The recent introduction of the Newton 2.0 operating system from Apple Computer, Inc. underscores Apple's commitment to evolving the PDA market through innovative technology and market leadership. Newton 2.0 is a major revision of the Newton operating system and a result of more than two years of extensive customer feedback and testing. The new operating system features improved organizational and communications capabilities, as well as integration with Mac OS-based and Windows-based personal computers.

Pocket Quicken 1.2 for Newton 2.0 reinforces Intuit's leadership in the mobile marketplace, providing fast and easy financial management on-the-go. "We heard from our customers that they want to manage their finances when they're out spending their money — away from their homes and desks," said Scott Cook, chairman of Intuit Inc. "With Pocket Quicken, they can easily capture their spending information when it happens, so they're in control of their finances, wherever they are."

Since January 1995, Pocket Quicken for Newton has been bundled on disk with the Apple MessagePad 120. Now, Pocket Quicken 1.2 for Newton 2.0 is the only third-party application preloaded in RAM on every new MessagePad 120, making it even easier for customers to use. Pocket Quicken 1.2 for Newton 2.0 has the same functionality as the earlier version, but it has now been updated to be fully compatible with the Newton 2.0 operating system.

Pocket Quicken provides the same basic account tracking capabilities as the best-selling Quicken personal finance software. It is optimized for fast and easy data entry on-the-go and instant access to important financial information. Pocket Quicken also works with Intuits Pocket Quicken Connect (sold separately), which allows customers to easily send their data to Quicken or Quicken ExpensAble. Quicken ExpensAble is a new Intuit product, available since August 1995, that simplifies expense reporting for business travelers.

"Pocket Quicken is one of the most popular applications among our Newton customers, which is why we're excited to continue our relationship with Intuit to provide Pocket Quicken on the MessagePad 120 with Newton 2.0," said Sandy Benett, vice president of the Newton Systems Group at Apple Computer, Inc. "Because it offers easy mobile financial management and connectivity not only to Quicken, but also Quicken ExpensAble, Pocket Quicken is an important solution for mobile professionals and a key application for the MessagePad 120."
