GeoSystems and Strategic Mapping Announce Joint Product Development Agreement
LANCASTER, Penn. — December 14, 1992 — GeoSystems, a business unit of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., and Strategic Mapping Inc., Monday announced a technology licensing agreement, under which Strategic Mapping will incorporate GeoSystems' high-quality maps and navigation technology into a new software program Strategic Mapping is developing.
Strategic Mapping's new software, designed to give business travelers an easy-to-use tool with information and maps for cities around the world, will be formally unveiled and begin shipping during MACWORLD Expo, Jan. 6-9, in San Francisco.
The announcement is the latest in a series of anticipated agreements between GeoSystems and software and travel publishers and is made less than one month after GeoSystems' agreement with Apple Computer to provide mapping technology solutions for the Apple Newton pen-based personal digital assistant (PDA).
"GeoSystems' agreement with Strategic Mapping reinforces our commitment to make software mapping technology available to the mainstream consumer marketplace," said Barry Glick, president of GeoSystems.
Strategic Mapping's package will make business and pleasure trips easier than ever by giving users fingertip access to virtually all of the information they need while traveling.
"We are extremely pleased to announce this agreement with R.R. Donnelley, which calls for Strategic Mapping to use both digital maps and routing databases from GeoSystems in our products. We chose GeoSystems because of the extensive amount of field-tested geographic information they have developed and the proven accuracy of it," said Daryl Scott, executive vice president of Strategic Mapping Inc.
