Fujitsu Personal Systems Announces Support for Microsoft Windows 98
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — June 25, 1998 — Fujitsu Personal Systems, Inc. (FPSI) today announced its support for Microsoft(R) Corporation's highly anticipated Windows(R) 98 operating system. The pen tablet market leader, FPSI will begin shipping Windows 98 with its pen computers in July. As the first pen tablet vendor to announce support for Windows 98, Fujitsu is building on its track record as an industry pioneer. In December 1995, FPSI's Stylistic 500(tm) became the first pen tablet to run Windows 95; in July 1997, FPSI announced the Stylistic 1200(tm), the first pen tablet to run Windows NT. "Support for Windows 98 demonstrates our continued leadership in Windows pen computing and dedication to meeting the needs of our corporate customers," stated Geoff Walker, vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Personal Systems.
"Large organizations expect their computer vendors to offer and support the latest operating systems from Microsoft as they become available. "The great majority of our customers run Windows 95. Offering our computers with Windows 98 provides them with an easy migration path to the new 32-bit standard for mobile business computing solutions," continued Walker. "With benefits such as faster performance, improved power management, and reduced support requirements, Windows 98 sets a new standard for mobile computing in the corporate environment," commented Rob Bennett, group product manager for Windows 98 at Microsoft Corp. "Fujitsu's support of Windows 98 demonstrates its leadership role in the pen computer market and its commitment to customer support." Features in Windows 98 such as Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI), Universal Serial Bus (USB) support, and enhanced diagnostic and maintenance tools help improve system stability and relieve the burden on corporate IS departments supporting a mobile workforce.
