D-Link Brings Bluetooth to the PC and Mac With USB Wireless Adapter

IRVINE, Calif. — October 10, 2002 — D-Link, the leading worldwide designer, developer and true manufacturer of networking, data communications and technologies for the Digital Home and Small to Medium Business, today launched a flexible and compact 2.4GHz Bluetooth USB wireless network adapter, the D-Link PersonalAir DBT-120. Designed to work with both PCs and the Apple Macintosh, D-Link's new Bluetooth adapter provides a true wireless connectivity experience within a seamless Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN).

The D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth adapter will automatically search out and identify other devices with similar software profiles when within range. Users can then choose to connect to one or multiple discovered devices. When multiple devices are connected, one acts as a server so the other devices can synchronize to create a WPAN. Multiple WPANs can even connect to one another to form a scatternet.

"This new D-Link Bluetooth adapter is an excellent short-range link for computers or peripheral devices without a cable," said Steven Joe, President of D-Link. "It enables synchronization and downloads at data rates of up to 723 kilobits per second to a wide range of existing devices."

The D-Link PersonalAir DBT-120 is the ideal solution for short-range wireless data communications, it allows PCs running Windows XP/2000/Me/98 and Macintosh iMac, iBook, and Powerbook computers running OS X to communicate and share data with other Bluetooth enabled computers, PDA's, printers, cellular phones, digital cameras, and other emerging electronic devices.

The D-Link DWB-120M is strictly compliant to the Bluetooth 1.1 specification and provides low power consumption up to 33 feet (or 10 Meters) of range. Up to seven Bluetooth devices can be connected together simultaneously in peer-to-peer or ad hoc mode to create a piconet. The D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth adapter deploys frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) to minimize interference and enhance security with connection speeds of up to 723kbps (Asymmetrical) or 433.9kbps (Symmetrical).
