AllPen Software to Incorporate Java in NetHopper browser Technology

LOS GATOS, Calif. — April 23, 1997 — AllPen Software Inc. today announced its commitment to incorporate Sun Microsystems Inc.'s Java(TM) technology into their NetHopper mobile/embedded World Wide Web browser technology.

AllPen's NetHopper technology is the "built-in" browser on Apple Computer's two recently released Newton devices, both the MessagePad 2000, a StrongArm Internet-enabled device, as well as the Apple eMate 300, Apple's new mobile computer for education. AllPen has been impressed by JavaSoft's recent announcement of PersonalJava and EmbeddedJava, which further underscores AllPen's commitment to Java by incorporating it into their NetHopper technology.

"We are pleased by AllPen's announcement today," said Dr. Lew Tucker, Director of Corporate and ISV Relations at JavaSoft, a business unit of Sun Microsystems Inc. "AllPen has shown strong commitment to Java, first with its NetHopper Enterprise Server, which is written entirely in Java and demonstrated at JavaOne, and now with their pledge to add Java support to their NetHopper Browser."

"We at AllPen are committed to keeping our NetHopper browser up to speed with the changes of the Net. Today, Java support is the number one feature request we receive from our user base," said Wayne Yurtin, Co-Founder of AllPen Software Inc. "We are anxious to provide our users with features, especially Java, that can enable both our customers as well as our licensees with a more feature rich Internet experience on their devices."

AllPen Software's mission is to assist Fortune 1000 firms in Web-enabling non-traditional computing devices through AllPen's software, including their EmbeddedWeb and NetHopper technologies.
