3Com Megahertz CompactFlash Card Extends LAN Connectivity to Windows CE Users
TOKYO — September 7, 1999 — Building upon a history of Ethernet leadership, 3Com Corp. (Nasdaq:COMS) today extended high-speed LAN connectivity to the growing number of mobile professionals using Windows CE(R)-based PCs.
The 3Com Megahertz 10 Mbps LAN CF+ Card is a matchbook-sized adapter that provides handheld PC users with direct access to enterprise applications and the Internet — replacing the slow and complicated serial connections of the past.
"Many mobile professionals now enjoy the portability and simplicity of handheld PCs, but face technology limitations when trying to access e-mail or the Internet with a Windows CE system," said Sylvio Jelovcich, director of worldwide product marketing for 3Com's Business Connectivity Group.
"The 3Com Megahertz 10 Mbps LAN CF+ Card will alleviate these frustrations by delivering simple and reliable network connectivity at speeds much faster than with traditional methods."
Designed to address the unique requirements of Windows CE systems, 3Com's CF+ solution uses unique power management features to conserve the valuable battery life of handheld PCs. Unlike similar products currently available, the 3Com card uses a mere 31 milliamps at full power. Users can reserve additional power by simply removing the cable or turning the card off with software included in the package.
