PeopleSoft and Palm Computing to Deliver eBusiness Applications on Palm Computing Platform
NEW ORLEANS — August 31, 1999 — PeopleSoft, Inc. and Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company, today announced an alliance to deliver PeopleSoft enterprise applications for eBusiness on the market-leading Palm Computing(R) platform.
The first in a series of applications being developed to extend PeopleSoft applications to the Palm Computing platform is PeopleSoft Expenses, which will allow mobile professionals to record and manage business expenses anywhere. The application is being demonstrated at the conference today in New Orleans and is scheduled to be generally available in the fourth quarter of 1999.
As part of this announcement, PeopleSoft has become a member of Palm Computing's (Nasdaq:COMS) Global Alliance Program. Additional PeopleSoft applications for the Service Supply Chain will offer integration to the Palm Computing platform beginning in the first half of 2000.
The integration of PeopleSoft Expenses with the Palm Computing platform allows mobile professionals to easily record expenses on Palm Computing devices as they occur, while maintaining compatibility with PeopleSoft enterprise applications. The transfer of data from the handheld to the PeopleSoft Expenses application on a PC takes place during the same quick HotSync(R) operation that a business traveler would use to update other data, such as an electronic calendar or e-mail. During synchronization, the expense information on the handheld is entered into PeopleSoft's Expenses application at the push of a button. Users of the Palm VII(TM) connected organizer will be able to wirelessly replicate PeopleSoft data directly to a server in real-time, without the need for a PC or HotSync cradle.
"Our relationship with PeopleSoft helps drive the Palm Computing platform further into enterprise computing, providing customers with practical and portable e-business solutions," says Mark Bercow, vice president, Strategic Alliances and Platform Development of Palm Computing, Inc. "Tracking and managing important information as it happens, in a format completely integrated with existing PeopleSoft software, gives users and administrators the ability to streamline data collection accurately and easily."
"Since its inception, PeopleSoft has always strived to offer our customers access to our applications on the most pervasive platforms in the market," said Stan Swete, vice president and general manager of the Financial Management division at PeopleSoft, Inc. "The explosion of handheld organizers — led by Palm Computing platform devices — has led PeopleSoft in a new and exciting direction in extending our applications to the individual employee. We look forward to the fruits of this alliance with Palm Computing as it takes PeopleSoft eBusiness applications off the PC and puts them into the hands of mobile professionals."
