Security Dynamics Turns Palm Computing Platform into Strong Authentication Device
BEDFORD, Mass. — April 6, 1999 — Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: SDTI) today extended its family of strong authentication products by introducing the SecurID(R) solution for the Palm Computing(R) platform. The SecurID authenticator for the Palm Computing platform is designed to enable the Palm device with patented SecurID technology in order to positively identify users and prevent unauthorized access to networks and systems.
The new product works in conjunction with Security Dynamics' ACE/Server(R) authentication management software to ensure that only authorized users gain access to network files, applications and communications, and is intended to eliminate the need for users to carry a separate SecurID token.
"This latest SecurID product reflects our commitment to continuous technological innovation and to providing customers with the authentication alternatives that meet their needs," said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA Data Security and Security Dynamics. "Security Dynamics, an industry leader in user authentication, and Palm Computing, the industry leader in handheld devices, are working together to create the secure tools that industry needs to be more productive and stay competitive."
The SecurID product family offers the industry's broadest choice of strong authentication solutions available anywhere. In addition to the Palm Computing platform, SecurID solutions are available in a range of form factors, including hardware tokens, key fobs, smart cards and software tokens. This gives users greater flexibility in selecting the form factor — or multiple form factors — best suited for their specific needs.
"The Palm Computing platform is a flexible, versatile foundation for building value-added applications and we are delighted that Security Dynamics is committed to providing their technology for our platform," said Gabriel Acosta-Lopez, director of platform development services for Palm Computing, Inc., a 3Com company. "We're very encouraged and excited by the opportunities we see to make the Palm Computing platform an enterprise level security solution with the strong authentication that businesses need."
Today, there are more than 3 million Palm Computing devices in use worldwide. Once used strictly as "pocket organizers," these devices increasingly are being used to connect directly to enterprise networks, especially in several vertical industry applications. Unlike other vendors offering authentication solutions for Palm Computing devices, Security Dynamics, with its proven SecurID(R), ACE/Server(R) and ACE/Agent(TM) technologies, is an industry leader in providing strong user authentication on an enterprise scale. SecurID solutions are designed to provide strong security and extensive management facilities across a broad range of platforms.
