JP Systems’ BeamLink Allows Virtual Real-Time Wireless Messaging Between Palm Computing Devices and SkyTel’s AccessLink II Two-Way Pager

DALLAS — September 21, 1998 — JP Systems Inc., a leading global software developer, today announced the availability of its flagship software, BeamLink(tm), a wireless-messaging product for PalmPilot(tm) and Palm III(tm) organizer users.

First Software to Link Infrared Technologies for the Sending and Receipt of Messages on Palm Computing Platform. As the first software ever to link infrared (IrDA) technologies on the Palm Computing(R) platform and a two-way pager, BeamLink allows users of Palm(tm) devices to transmit and receive E-mail, text and pager messages through Glenayre Technologies' two-way pager, the AccessLink II(tm). This wireless exchange of data between the two business tools occurs when users point or "beam" the Palm device at the AccessLink II pager that also supports IrDA technology.

"Today's mobile lifestyles have signaled a growing demand for technological advances that not only expand communication, but also offer competitive business advantages," said Dayakar Puskoor, chief executive officer for JP Systems Inc. "BeamLink enables powerful, near real-time exchanges of information at the user's convenience," Puskoor said.

In addition to facilitating instant E-mail between two important business tools, BeamLink allows Palm organizer users to confirm message delivery, download address book information, and seamlessly drag received messages into file folders. BeamLink furthers these users' options by incorporating SkyTel's vast paging network service for communications at any time. For example, Palm organizer users now can send and receive messages through the AccessLink II pager without disrupting important meetings.

"JP Systems has shown consistent expertise in developing software to extend the capabilities of the PalmPilot and Palm III connected organizers," said Mark Bercow, vice president of strategic alliances and platform development for Palm Computing Inc., a 3Com company. "BeamLink's use of IrDA technology gives mobile professionals an advantage in terms of productivity and efficiency," Bercow said.

President and CEO of SkyTel Communications Inc. John T. Stupka commented, "This solution enables users not only to receive messages on their Palm devices, but also to transmit information from their PDAs when they are on the go. In doing so, we can leverage SkyTel's two-way messaging network to reinforce and expand the concept of mobile E-mail. This partnership with JP Systems, 3Com and Glenayre creates a powerful proposition that provides real value to our customers."

"We, too, believe it is important for us to work with partners such as JP Systems to provide the very best applications for two-way advanced messaging," said Greg Pinter, senior director of strategic programs for Glenayre's Wireless Access Group. The IrDA port and BeamLink software will make a great combination for consumers who need advanced functionality and wireless communication, he added.

Available through JP Systems, BeamLink retails for $ 49.95. Interested persons may order the software via telephone at 972/484-5432 or online at www.jpsystems.com/beamlink.
