Fujitsu Personal Systems Licenses CIC Software for New CE-Based Pen Tablet

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — June 17, 1999 — Fujitsu Personal Systems Inc. (FPSI), the leader in the Windows pen tablet market, today announced the completion of a strategic licensing agreement with (Nasdaq:CICI) Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC), the leading supplier of pen-based software.

FPSI will bundle CIC's top-selling pen-based software applications and developer's tools with its new PenCentra 130, an H/PC Pro pen tablet computer. This agreement enables FPSI VARs to develop compelling Windows CE pen-based solutions for industries such as field services, home healthcare and merchandising.

The software package from CIC includes both Jot(R) and Handwriter(R) handwriting recognition systems; Speller(tm) spell checking utility; QuickNotes(tm) electronic note-taking solution; and InkTools(tm) electronic signature solution. The PenCentra 130 will be the first device with CIC's new PenX(tm) VC for virtual channel pen driver support, making it an ideal pen-based thin client for Citrix Systems' Independent Computing Architecture (ICA).

"Thanks to our long history of collaboration with CIC, Fujitsu continues to provide Fortune 500 companies with state-of-the-art pen hardware and software for their mobile workers," commented Louis Panetta, FPSI president and CEO. "When we ship the PenCentra 130, our market-leading pen tablet computers will span the entire spectrum of Windows operations systems — from CE to NT."

"As two of the pioneers in the pen computing industry, FPSI and CIC have repeatedly driven the leading edge of the technology," said Guido DiGregorio, president and CEO of CIC. "CIC's suite of software coupled with the full-featured PenCentra 130 is once again evidence of our mutual commitment to meet the needs of today's mobile computing market."

The PenCentra 130 will offer a unique client/server capability using CIC's PenX(tm) VC in conjunction with the Citrix ICA. This architecture is ideal for vertical markets, such as healthcare. Enterprise managers who develop applications for the PenCentra 130 using the thin-client model will appreciate the reduced total cost of ownership in a centralized computing environment.
