Lauzon Receives Exclusive CSA/NRTL Certification for Distribution of Fujitsu’s Stylistic 1000 in U.S. and Abroad
CALGARY, Alberta — June 10, 1996 — Lauzon Computer Software Ltd., a Calgary-based software development company, today announced that it has received the Canadian Standards Association/Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory's (CSA/NRTL) certification for Fujitsu Personal Systems' Stylistic 1000 handheld tablet computers.
The Stylistic 1000 is the first pen computer on the market to receive the CSA/NRTL designation, giving Lauzon exclusive rights for the distribution of the Stylistic 1000 into hazardous areas within the oil and gas industry that are designated as CSA/NRTL Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D classification. Lauzon also announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Clark Data Systems (CDS), a Houston, Texas-based full service value-added reseller. Under this agreement, Lauzon will market and distribute the CSA/NRTL certified Stylistic 1000 throughout Canada, while CDS will market and distribute the CSA/NRTL certified Stylistic 1000 to the US and international markets.
The Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D category is characterized by sites that are hazardous due to the presence of potentially explosive gases such as acetylene, hydrogen, ethylene, propane and methane. All equipment used in this category must meet the strict CSA/NRTL standard in order to comply with provincial and state labor and insurance codes.
Lauzon's customized software integrated in the Stylistic 1000 enables engineers and site supervisors to collect and analyze site information at the source. Prior to the use of Fujitsu's Stylistic 1000, site personnel would have to collect data manually at the site and then return to the main or off-site office in order to enter and then analyze the data on a desktop computer, wasting both time and manpower.
"Our software is specifically designed to use data that is collected directly at the manufacturing facility," said Ron Lauzon, Lauzon's founder and president. "The fact that engineers and supervisors can now carry a full-function PC with them as they collect and analyze data will mean a tremendous increase in productivity."
"We are extremely pleased to be working with Lauzon on this project," said Geoff Walker, Fujitsu's vice president of marketing. "This is a great example of what our systems do best, and paves the way for the development of future mobile applications in other markets in remote data analysis."
The Fujitsu Stylistic 1000 is powered by a 100 MHz 486 DX4-class microprocessor, the fastest ever designed into a tablet computer. The 3.4-pound handheld PC delivers longer battery life, more screen options — including DSTN color — and more connectivity capabilities than any other tablet PC. In addition, the Stylistic 1000, which is qualified for the "Designed for Microsoft Windows 95" logo, ships with Windows 95 and Microsoft's Pen Services 2.0. This combination of features allows the Stylistic 1000 to meet the latest mobile computing requirements in decision support applications found in industries such as sales automation, insurance, healthcare, market survey and utilities.
