Fujitsu Introduces Industry’s Fastest Color Tablet PC
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — March 18, 1996 — Affirming its leadership position in the handheld mobile computing market, Fujitsu Personal Systems, Inc. today introduced the Stylistic 1000, the world's most powerful color tablet PC.
The Fujitsu Stylistic 1000 is powered by a 100 MHz 486 DX4-class microprocessor, the fastest ever designed into a tablet computer. The 3.4-pound handheld PC delivers longer battery life, more screen options — including DSTN color — and more connectivity capabilities than any other tablet PC. In addition, the Stylistic 1000, which is qualified for the "Designed for Microsoft Windows 95" logo, ships with Windows 95 and Microsoft's Pen Services 2.0. This combination of features allows the Stylistic 1000 to meet the latest mobile computing requirements of productivity-centric decision support applications found in industries such as sales automation, insurance, healthcare and utilities.

The Stylistic 1000 offers three display options: a 7.8-inch DSTN color display, a 7.9-inch transmissive monochrome display, and a 7.9-inch transflective monochrome display. Other features of the Stylistic 1000 include:
— 8MB of DRAM (expandable to 24MB) — 260MB or 340MB hard disk drives — Li-Ion battery pack for 4 to 6 hours of operation — Advanced power management (APM 1.1) — Rugged stylus — Standard peripheral ports — Port replicator — Two stacked Type II PCMCIA slots and one Type III ATA slot — IrDA infrared wireless adapter
Peripheral ports, including floppy disk drive and standard parallel, serial, keyboard and VGA monitor ports, are aligned on a single edge for improved cable management. A port replicator connector on the bottom of the Stylistic 1000 enables one-step, snap-on attachment to a wide range of peripherals. A folding desk stand adapter can be added to create desktop-like functionality.
The Stylistic 1000 features a built-in, point-and-shoot IrDA-compliant infrared adapter, enabling industry-standard wireless connectivity to printers and desktop PCs for on-the-go file transfer. In addition, the system's display interface includes two new "Hot Pads" — "Reverse Video" and a VAR-programmable, application-specific pad. Two new status indicators enable automated monitoring of peripherals in both PCMCIA slots.
The Stylistic 1000 supports Windows 95, Pen Services 2.0, Phoenix PowerPanel and CIC HRS 5.0. Pen Services 2.0 is Microsoft's improved pen driver system that allows VAR or systems integrators to design application-specific stylus functionality. Other system software includes a VAR BIOS configuration utility and application developers' libraries.
Measuring just 7.3" x 11" x 1.6", the Stylistic 1000 tablet computer weighs 3.4 pounds with the Li-Ion battery pack installed. Fujitsu also offers an extensive list of accessories and peripherals for the Stylistic 1000, including DRAM modules, HDDs, spare battery pack, battery charger, AC adapter, auto adapter, screen protector, low-power keyboard, floppy disk drive, slip case, harsh environment case, stylus kit, port replicator, folding desk stand and bar code wand. Three-Year Warranty The Stylistic 1000 is covered by Fujitsu's three-year warranty. Fujitsu also offers an optional No-Fault Display Plan, an unmatched warranty for system displays which covers the LCD for damage of any type, regardless of cause, for up to three years. Pricing and Availability The Fujitsu Stylistic 1000 tablet computer will be available within 30 days. The expected volume price for a Stylistic 1000 with transmissive screen, 260MB hard drive, 8MB DRAM and Windows 95 is $ 2,895. The same configuration with transflective screen is $ 2,995, and with color screen is $ 3,495.
