Sybase Big Apple Classic Golf Tournament Hits the Links in New York

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — July 15, 2003 — Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY) showcases its support of the LPGA and wireless computing this week with its third title sponsorship of New York's premier Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event — the Sybase(R) Big Apple Classic. The tournament will be held July 17-20 at the Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, New York, one of the most historic and challenging golf courses on the LPGA Tour. Sybase subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions will team with Intel Corporation to provide wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access at the tournament and will also offer players, attendees and fans worldwide up-to-the-second scoring via "Sybase Big Apple Classic To Go," a dedicated My AvantGo(R) channel available on mobile devices such as PDAs and smartphones. Golf fans can learn more and set up their wireless device by visiting www.avantgo.com/sbac.

"Sybase technology powers both Wall Street and the wireless revolution, making the Sybase Big Apple Classic the ideal venue to highlight how our technology improves the way people live, work and play," said John Chen, chairman, CEO and president of Sybase. "Title sponsorship of this world-class LPGA tournament allows us to demonstrate Sybase's commitment to excellence to our customers on Wall Street and around the world."

"Once again, we are thrilled to have Sybase, Inc., continue as the title sponsor of the Sybase Big Apple Classic presented by Lincoln Mercury," said LPGA Commissioner Ty M. Votaw. "Each year, thanks to Sybase and many other dedicated LPGA sponsors, we witness new heights of athletic achievement at LPGA events throughout the season known for dramatic competition and tremendous crowds. With its dedication, Sybase delivers a powerful statement about its global leadership in e-Business to a vast audience of enthusiastic fans and customers."

A 72-hole tournament, the Sybase Big Apple Classic will feature the talents of the finest women golfers in the world, including defending champions Gloria Park (2002) and Beth Daniel (1994). Other top LPGA stars competing for a portion of the $950,000 purse include Meg Mallon, Michelle McGann, Angela Stanford and Jan Stephenson. NBC will televise the third and fourth rounds live from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, July 19 and 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. (EST) on Sunday, July 20. The tournament will benefit charity services for The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, a full service medical/surgical specialty hospital caring for more than 165,000 patients annually, including many of New York's most needy citizens.

Throughout the tournament, Sybase subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions and Intel will host Wi-Fi hot spots in the grandstands and clubhouse, enabling visitors with Wi-Fi 802.11b wireless-enabled mobile devices to enjoy access to the Internet, personal email and "Sybase Big Apple Classic To Go," the new My AvantGo mobile channel. "SBAC To Go" provides up-to-the-second tournament statistics, including the leaderboard, detailed event and player information, and a graphical display of tournament course holes and can be accessed by fans worldwide via PDA or smartphone. Demonstrations of the technology will also be available at the clubhouse running on HP iPAQ 2215 devices with the Socket Communications 802.11b WLAN CF Card.

"The fabric of personal and business computing is evolving into an unwired and more accessible model," said Don MacDonald, director of Marketing, Intel Mobile Platforms Group. "Sybase and Intel share the vision that wireless connectivity provides today's mobile users with the flexibility to stay connected at mainstream locations, such as public Internet access "hotspots" going up in airports, hotels and even golf courses like this, around the world."
