VIRTMED Names Dr. Vernon Huang Director of Clinical Product Design

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — February 28, 2000 — VIRTMED, a medical information services company dedicated to leveraging innovative handheld computing and Internet technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery, announced today the appointment of Vernon Huang, M.D to director of clinical product design. In this role, Dr. Huang will leverage his expertise in handheld computing and medicine to design new applications facilitating the exchange of information at the point of care.

As a pioneer in the development of handheld solutions for healthcare professionals, Dr. Huang brings more than eight years of mobile computing experience and over ten years of medical practice experience to VIRTMED, including authoring the first medical application for a consumer handheld computer. Before joining VIRTMED, Dr. Huang served as medical director Apple Computer's Newton division where he was responsible for healthcare market development. As medical director, Dr. Huang was instrumental in the introduction of handheld technology to the healthcare industry.

Prior to joining Apple Computer, Dr. Huang co-founded Tactile Systems, a company specializing in mobile computing and personal digital assistant (PDA) solutions. While at Tactile Systems, Dr. Huang focused on projects involving the creation of PDA applications and software specifically for the healthcare professionals, including the American Society of Hand Therapists.

Dr. Huang received his doctorate in medicine from the George Washington University School of Medicine and his bachelors's degree in biomedical engineering from The Johns Hopkins University. He received postgraduate training in anesthesia at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania. A Lieutenant Commander in the USNR, also served as a U.S. Naval flight surgeon assigned to the Marine Corps.
