Wynd Communications Brings Two-Way Personal Communications to Apple MessagePad with Newton 2.0
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — October 31, 1995 — Wynd Communications Corp. today announced that WyndMAIL, the industry's most advanced personal communications service, is now available for the new version of the Newton 2.0 operating system for the Apple MessagePad 120.
In conjunction with the specially developed type II Megahertz AllPoints Wireless PC Card, WyndMAIL provides a total personal communications solution, dramatically expanding wireless communications options for the mobile MessagePad user.
WyndMAIL provides subscribers with a flexible way to wirelessly communicate with a wide variety of devices, including notebooks, handheld organizers, pagers, fax machines, telephones and the Apple MessagePad.
WyndMAIL turns the MessagePad into an all-in-one communications device offering MessagePad users the convenience of transmitting and receiving messages anytime, anywhere. Users can also use WyndMAIL and the Internet to handle their communications. The service provides nationwide coverage without roaming charges, long distance fees, or cellular phone expenses.
"With WyndMAIL, users can add even more power to their MessagePad with two-way wireless communications," said Dan Luis, general manager, Wynd Communications Corp. "Wynd transforms the MessagePad into a comprehensive communications tool giving users the power to control the sending and receiving of information, easily and affordably."
"Communications is the cornerstone of Newton and MessagePad architecture, enabling the most advanced communications capabilities of any PDA device today," said Steve Andler, Apple's senior director of Mobile Systems Product Marketing. "With the support of leading technology developers such as Wynd Communications, the Newton 2.0 platform continues to progress in offering leading two-way communications."
Easy To Use
Because WyndMAIL is fully integrated into the Newton 2.0 operating system, the MessagePad solution offers mobile users the convenience of one compact device which manages daily communications more efficiently than ever before. The MessagePad provides users with a touch-pen input method allowing for greater speed and convenience when composing and transmitting wireless messages.
Users can activate the WyndMAIL wireless messaging application by simply tapping the WyndMAIL icon, making transmission of spreadsheet, database, and word-processing information only a pen touch away. Also, with the new, fully integrated operating system users can access MessagePad's address book to send wireless messages without having to repeatedly type out long mailbox addresses.
Portability
The small size of the MessagePad coupled with WyndMAIL's personal communications service provides mobile professionals with all the portable tools they need to efficiently manage their communications. The MessagePad weighs approximately 16-1/4 ounces with batteries, with compact dimensions of 8" x 4" x 1-1/4" (L x W x H), and a 320 x 240 pixel LCD display.
The Megahertz AllPoints Wireless PC card, sold separately, adds further portability and ensures high-quality transmission of wireless messages for WyndMAIL subscribers. The standard-size type II card connects WyndMAIL through the MessagePad's PCMCIA card slot, and also supports all PowerBooks equipped with PCMCIA slots, providing mobile Apple users maximum personal communications versatility.
The new type II card includes an extension with a removable antenna and a battery booster that works with any standard NiCad or alkaline nine-volt battery. The entire the MessagePad wireless communication system weighs a mere 21-1/4 ounces.
