Psion’s Continues Retail Expansion with Circuit City Roll Out

BOSTON — May 26, 1994 — Psion Inc., U.S. subsidiary of British portable computer group Psion Plc, announced today that it is rolling out nationally with Circuit City after an extremely successful test over the past 6 months.

The move will significantly strengthen the company's position in the burgeoning market for palm-tops and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA's).

Psion's award-winning Series 3 palmtop computer has already established itself as the highest-selling PDA in the world today and the company has recently increased production to 24,000 machines per month. Psion has been the main beneficiary of the failure of pen-based PDA's, such as the Apple Newton and Casio/Tandy Zoomer, to establish retail markets.

Barry Balcourt, Psion Inc. vice president, was enthusiastic at the addition of Circuit City. "The availability of the Series 3 nationally at the USA's leading consumer electronics chain will consolidate our growth this side of the Atlantic. We have dominated the European market for hand-held and palm-top computers for many years and are investing considerably to repeat that success in the U.S." Balcourt added, "The market seems to be moving away from the 8-Bit electronic Organizers from Japanese manufacturers Casio and Sharp, whose technology is becoming seriously outdated. Why buy an Organizer when you can get a fully-fledged computer at the same price?"

In addition to Circuit City the Psion Series 3 is available at Sears, The Sharper Image and CompUSA.
