Psion Expands Series 3 Software Library

BOSTON — March 16, 1994 — Psion Inc., U.S. subsidiary of British portable computer group Psion Plc, is introducing three new software programs for its award-winning Series 3 range of palm-top computers.

In addition to offering Lucasart's challenging Pipemania game, Psion has also released two other significant software titles, Wine Guide 1994 and Compute-a-Diet, that will offer Psion users further enhancements to the Series 3's extensive application library.

Barry Balcourt, VP of Psion's Retail Sales Division commented: "Psion is dedicated to continued development of software for our Series 3 range. In order for us to capture further market share while maintaining our existing customer base, it is incumbent on us to offer the consumer functional, yet easy to use, software for increasing their productivity. We shall be releasing several more significant software programs in the near future."

Psion claims that it has become Number 1 in worldwide sales of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA's) and has recently increased its production of Series 3 machines to 24,000 per month as a result of strong demand for its top-of-the-line Series 3a variant launched in September 1993. Sales have soared in North America where Psion has been the main beneficiary of the failure of pen-based PDA's, such as the Apple Newton and the Casio/Tandy Zoomer, to establish retail markets.

The Series 3 has a retail price of under $500 and is available at over 1000 outlets in North America, including Sears, Circuit City, The Sharper Image, CompUSA, The Wiz, Best Buy, The Good Guys and Silo.
