State Of The Art Inc. Announces Management Changes

IRVINE, Calif. — December 2, 1993 — Accounting software developer State Of The Art Inc. (NASDAQ:SOTA) Thursday announced two management changes.

James M. Hennings, vice president and general manager of Start Accounting, was made vice president of marketing and product management for State Of The Art, and David Ries, director of Apple business development, was named general manager of the entry products division, according to David W. Hanna, chairman and chief executive officer.

"After meeting with the senior management team and evaluating the company's organizational structure, I decided that these executive management changes will better position the company for future growth," said Hanna. "Both Jim and Dave have strong track records with the company and significant experience in the accounting software industry. I'm confident these new responsibilities will allow them to utilize their expertise to assist the company in achieving its goals."

As vice president of marketing and product management, Hennings takes on the responsibility of building a comprehensive marketing organization for the company, which includes establishing product marketing managers for the company's growing number of products. Additionally, Hennings will also focus on directing the launch of the company's M-A-S 90/G product line.

"With its M-A-S 90 Evolution/2 product, State Of The Art has traditionally provided strong marketing and sales programs. Now that we've expanded our product offerings, the company is establishing a new organization in order to effectively manage its new and future product lines," said Hennings. "To that end, I'll be adding product marketing managers for each product line, and building a staff to assist the company in continuing to be a leader in the accounting software market."

In his new position, Ries will manage the company's entry products division, Start Accounting, which develops and markets MacP&L. He'll also manage the ExpensePlus product line. His responsibilities include overseeing channel sales and marketing, product support, and ensuring the company's Macintosh product development efforts incorporate the latest technology by fostering the company's ongoing relationship with Apple Computer Inc.

"I'm tremendously excited about the potential of the PDA marketplace and the opportunities for ExpensePlus, both as a Newton application, and across a variety of other platforms," said Ries. "I'm also planning to continue expanding the market share of our entry accounting product, MacP&L."

Founded in 1981, with headquarters in Irvine, Calif, State Of The Art develops and markets accounting software for microcomputers and personal digital assistants. State Of The Art stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market System under the symbol SOTA.
