Infrared Data Association Announces the Timetable for a Worldwide Cordless Data Connectivity Standard for Mobile Pcs & Peripherals/Data Services
BROOKSDALE, Calif. — November 8, 1993 — IRDA's infrared data link standard, logo, and certification is to be released at CeBIT (the world's largest computer and telecommunications exhibition) in Hannover, Germany during March 1994.
A worldwide, interoperable, cordless infrared serial data link featuring low power, low cost and speeds up to 115.2Kb allows a wireless "walk up to" data transfer in a simple yet compelling way.
Universal data connections are expected for docking & input units, printers, telephones, desktop/laptop PCs, network nodes, ATMs, & mobile peers (PDA meets PDA).
The membership roster includes over 50 industry leaders in computer and telecommunication hardware, software and component sectors.
