Oracle Announces Connectivity To Newton MessagePad

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — July 30, 1993 — Oracle Corp., (NASDAQ:ORCL) the world's leading supplier of information management software and services, Friday announced support for Apple Computer's Personal Digital Assistant, the Newton MessagePad. Oracle's Glue technology — a sophisticated Application Programming Interface (API) capable of connecting databases, mail systems, and file systems across virtually all platforms — will link the Oracle7 cooperative server database and Oracle Office messaging systems to the Newton MessagePad.

"Many companies have demonstrated a vision of truly mobile computing that was fun, fast, and easy, but Apple is the first company to deliver on this promise," said Marc R. Benioff, corporate vice president of Oracle's New Technology Division. "The combination of Apple's Newton with Oracle's database and messaging will provide the framework for the new generation of mobile applications that we have all anticipated."

The integration between the Newton MessagePad and Oracle software will enable customers to access Oracle databases wherever the user may be. For example, an insurance company's field representatives will be able to use the MessagePad and Oracle Glue to easily access a claims database at the corprate office. Oracle plans further integration between its family of products and the Newton MessagePad as a mobile window into Oracle data.
