Harris/Dracon Teams with AllPen Software to Develop Mosaic-like Software for Telco Field Craft
CAMARILLO, Calif. — January 5, 1995 — The Dracon Division of Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) has teamed with AllPen Software, Inc. of Los Gatos, CA to license their software for use in Harris/Dracon's pen-based SuperTech 2000(TM) Craft Digital Assistant (CDA). The Mosaic-like software will allow field craft to download trouble ticket information, forms, and graphical cable maps from the technician's SuperTech 2000 mobile file server to the CDA.
The SuperTech 2000 Mobile Communication and Information System is an interactive technician system used for testing various transmission media. The outside plant hand-held CDA is based on Apple's Newton technology that provides an advanced user interface and interacts with the remaining system through wireless spread spectrum technology.
"AllPen is the leading custom Newton software development firm providing vertical Newton solutions in the Fortune 1000 community," commented Harris/Dracon's Director of SuperTech Ken Selig. "Technicians will be able to get immediate information in the palm of their hand, whether it's a graphical cable map, trouble-ticket or customer information all provided via wireless transmission to their hand-held Super Tech 2000 CDA screen using this custom software. SuperTech 2000 applications using the Mosaic standards will allow our customers to develop and model private TCP/IP client/server architectures that could easily utilize secure communications that will be available from the commercialization of the Internet and World Wide Web (WWW)."
AllPen Software, Inc. will be demonstrating this technology in January, 1995 at the MacWorld Exhibition in San Francisco, California. "The technology enables customers to access their enterprise information in a remote mode — such as serving company specific forms on an isolated network — and is extendible to the Internet & World Wide Web community," remarked AllPen's Co-Founder, Wayne Yurtin.
The Dracon Division of Harris Corporation, an ISO 9001 registered company, is a world leader in interactive telephone line test systems, portable test equipment, technician tools and message and control systems.
