Extended Systems Demonstrates Server-based Synchronization for Symbian EPOC devices at Symbian Developer Conference
BOISE, Idaho — February 16, 2000 — Synchronization solution offers mobile workers data management for smart phones and communicators
Extended Systems (Nasdaq:XTND), a leading provider of mobile information management products, is demonstrating XTNDConnect Server 2.4, a server-based synchronization and management product, for Symbian EPOC-enabled wireless information devices at the Symbian Developer Conference and Exhibition at the Santa Clara Convention Center, February 15-17 (Booth No. 204).
This is one of the first demonstrations of secure, server-based data synchronization for EPOC devices.
With XTNDConnect Server 2.4, individuals and corporations that use the EPOC platform (the operating system used in smartphones and other wireless information devices) can now have secure data access directly to a Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino server and ODBC-compliant databases such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, and Extended Systems' Advantage Database Server.
Dataquest predicts the number of cellular devices will exceed 863 million by 2003. Extended Systems President and CEO Steve Simpson says that as the number of mobile device users continues to proliferate, technologies such as XTNDConnect Server 2.4 are going to become increasingly vital.
"We are extending our lead in mobile information management by offering real solutions for today's mobile worker," said Simpson. "While several companies have been talking about the development of mobile computing solutions, Extended Systems has been the first to deliver comprehensive and innovative mobile information management solutions."
Psion Business Development Manager Andy Sheehan said, "With XTNDConnect Server, enterprise connectivity and functionality is available on the full range of Psion's mobile computers. The Psion products and XTNDConnect Server provide corporate IT departments and solution providers a comprehensive platform for developing, deploying and administering mobile connectivity solutions."
