Mobile Insights Announces Innovative Wireless Network for Upcoming Go Mobile ’99 Conference
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — June 8, 1999 — Mobile Insights (MI), the leading source for the mobile computing and data communications markets, today announced the creation of an innovative wireless network scheduled for debut at Mobile Insights' upcoming Go Mobile '99 conference. Attendees will enjoy an interactive event experience, answering real-time surveys, browsing on the Internet, and rating demos and activities at the show.
The network will feature today's state of the art technology supplied by industry leaders in the mobile computing category. Attendees of the event will be issued an IBM ThinkPad with an 11M bps wireless local area network (LAN) card supplied by 3Com or Symbol, joint venture partners advancing high-speed wireless LAN technology. Additionally, all ThinkPads will be connected to a back-end IBM NetFinity server which, in turn, will be connected to a 3Com router and the Internet.
"This will be the first time that all attendees of a major conference will be connected with a wireless LAN," said J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D., President and CEO of Mobile Insights. "Each attendee will be able to comment on important mobile computing and communications issues in real time during the conference. The results of their voting will be presented in a report given after the conference to our MobileTrax Online clients and conference attendees."
Metamore Corp.'s The Windward Group subsidiary will develop custom software for the network that will allow for registration, dialog on mobile computing topics, rating of onstage demos, and voting on important issues. Microsoft will provide Windows 2000 server and client, Internet Explorer, Outlook (for email among attendees), and Office 2000. Intel will supply advanced Coppermine CPUs for the IBM ThinkPads.
In addition, each attendee will be given a Palm VII, Palm Computing's latest and most advanced handheld offering. Each Palm VII will contain contact information for all attendees and will be connected to the Exchange Server using the included Puma Intellisync Anywhere utility. Attendees will be able to use the Palm VII Web clipping service to access information during the conference.
Mobile Insights' Go Mobile '99 conference will be held Sept. 21-23 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines near San Diego. For more information about the conference, visit Mobile Insights' Web site at www.mobileinsights.com.
